Tips for starting a podcast in 2022 as a business owner

Digital Marketing

Podcasts are still new to the mainstream, but they’re growing quickly and have the potential to become one of the most important marketing tools available to business owners today. And with podcast listenership skyrocketing, now is the perfect time to consider starting your own podcast in 2022. Here are some tips for starting a podcast in 2022 as a business owner that you can use as you work on launching your podcast quickly.

Why podcasts can help you find new customers?

Content marketing has become more important than ever before, and with so many avenues to share your content (social media, email, blogging), having multiple avenues that pull people back to your website is critical. Podcasts are just one way to attract more people back to your site and generate new sales. If you’re looking for new ways to build an audience, start by adding podcasts to your content marketing mix.

Podcasts help you build an audience of potential customers who can be reached with your content over and over again. When people visit your website after downloading one of your podcasts, they’re highly engaged—not only are they interested in what you have to say, but they’ve also taken an action to learn more about you.

When you’re trying to grow your audience, podcasts are an easy way to drive listeners back to your website. And with more and more people listening on their commute or during their lunch break, podcasts have become an effective medium for reaching new customers. Whether you’re selling products or services, a podcast is a great way to build relationships with your target audience.

What equipment do I need?

When it comes to starting your own podcast, you don’t need much equipment. In fact, all you really need is: A computer or smart phone with recording and editing software. While not entirely necessary, having a microphone (wired or wireless) will give your audio more of that professional touch. For example, I use Blue Snowball microphones when I record my own podcasts.

If you are looking for a slightly more professional sound,, Schure microphone is an industry standard when it comes to recording audio. In fact, it’s what most voice over actors use! So you can expect great quality when using their products.

How can I record great episodes?

Once you’ve figured out what your podcast is going to be about, it’s time to figure out how you are going to record episodes. Fortunately, it’s really easy nowadays. And if you want a little guidance or help from someone with experience, that's easy too; many companies offer courses on how to make and launch your own podcast and are there to support at every step of the way. Some of these course good value for your money: udemy, skillshare.

Many online services offer recording platforms to make it easier to record and publish your episodes, like Soundtrap. This can save you time, hassle, and money because they take care of all of those technical tasks while also providing you with some great analytics.

How do I edit my recordings?

If you have a video podcast, we recommend using riverside.fm to edit your recordings, because it allows you to add titles and remove unwanted noises or dialogues from your recording. You can also use it to upload on YouTube if you prefer. But you should check out other options that are available online if you would like to do an audio podcast.

You may also decide to record multiple versions of your podcast, like an edited version and an unedited version. For example, if you have any offensive language or want to remove any other parts of your recordings that you don’t want people to hear. You can use editing software such as audacity to edit your recordings. Audacity is free and open source software designed specifically for audio editing on Windows and Mac computers.

What kind of frequency works best?

If you want to succeed with a podcast, stick to a schedule. That could mean scheduling one episode per week, two episodes per month or something more complex. It’s important to put a structure in place and stay consistent. If you release episodes on a regular schedule and are committed to updating your website every time new content is available, listeners will be able to anticipate when they can expect your next episode.

For instance, if you release an episode every Monday, people who listen to your podcast are going to know that they can expect new content from you every Monday. As long as you stick to that schedule and keep listeners updated on any changes, they’ll be able to anticipate when they can listen to your show. That builds trust and keeps them coming back again and again.

Is it worth the time?

We highly recommend podcasts, but don’t do it just because we say so. (Though we are saying so.) They’re great marketing tools and fantastic ways to get your name out there and increase your visibility. (Your website alone won’t cut it; you need content that gets people coming back over and over again.) If nothing else, podcasts can be great fun—and not just for listeners!

There is someone out there that can benefit from your expertise. Sure, you need to share it with all of your followers and fans, but don’t forget about prospects who will never find you if you don’t reach out to them!

Remember that you’re selling yourself and your ideas, so it’s vital to first build trust. This can take a while if you don’t have an existing relationship with your listener base, but if you give them value (like useful information) first, they will keep coming back.
